Windows 8 gave laptop manufacturers the chance to be creative with new touchscreen models. What kind of touchscreen laptop is best? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the best touch screen laptops windows 8 2014?
Convertible laptops fold their screens over their keyboards with hinges. Dockables, the lightest laptops, have screens that detach entirely from their keyboards, which are peripherals. Sliders have screens that slide back and forth over their keyboards.
As a new Windows laptop for basic computing tasks, the Asus VivoBook X202E is a very good budget option. Its responsive 11.6-inch touch screen makes Windows 8 navigation much easier than does a touch pad. It weighs just under three pounds, and its shell is mostly aluminum topside, plastic underneath.
Asus VivoBook X202E- One of the best touchscreen laptops-2014
The VivoBook X202E’s Core i3 processor is no powerhouse, and its battery life could be better. The 1,366 x 768 resolution screen has some glare and view-angle difficulties. The keyboard isn’t backlit, a feature not to be expected for a machine priced at about $550. For that price, the trade-offs are fair. This laptop is a great low-price option.
Dell XPS 12- Another best touch screen laptop
As Microsoft turns the operating system into a hybrid, manufacturers develop hardware devices that take advantage of both worlds. There are straight-up Windows 8 tablets, touch-screen notebooks, and laptops with screens sliding over keyboards to become tablets. With all these imaginative designs available now or soon, the Dell XPS 12 nevertheless stands out. In a backflip spin, the screen rotates 180 degrees and refolds to cover the keyboard, changing the $999 ultrabook into a tablet.
The Dell XPS 12 is a laptop first and foremost, including increased heft for a full-sized, backlit, comfortable keyboard and a 12.5-inch screen with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. Watching movies or playing games is pure pleasure. The XPS 12′s Intel Core i5 processor and 128-gigabyte solid-state drive pack a potent desktop-sized punch and a superb (if slightly oversize) tablet on par with the best Apple and Android hardware.
Can a convertible justify the price premium hybrids command over dedicated laptops and tablets? The Dell XPS 12 has a few quirks, but in all it’s a compelling case for a bright future for convertibles.
HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4010nr- Yet another one of the best touch screen laptops for 2014
Putting the words “15.6-inch screen” and “ultrabook” together, Hewlett-Packard (HP) has produced just such a laptop, the Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4010nr, with lots to like, starting with its high-quality, in-plane switching panel touch screen also with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. Keyboard backlighting features the F5 key, which turns all backlighting on and off except for itself and the F11 key, which turns Wi-Fi on and off.
The Spectre XT costs $1,349 with a Core i7 processor, eight gigabytes of random-access memory, and bundled Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements software, one of the best values in thin and light laptops.
The choice may depend partly on personal taste and circumstances, but there can be no doubt that for overall value the Asus VivoBook X202E, the Dell XPS 12, and the HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4010nr are among the best touch screen laptops. Remember, there are more best touch screen laptops and these are not necessarily the official review but my two cents.:-)
